Tea Flowers

Do you love tea? I sure do, especially during the winter months and sniffles season. What better way to recycle/reuse the tea canister, than to fill it up with water and plop some of your favorite flowers in it? While sipping on my tea, mid-week and the snowflakes falling, I wanted to be cozy and refreshed. So, as I finished the last of the leaves, I transformed the cute container into a cheerful floral bouquet for my bedside table.

If you do this at home, test to make sure the tin doesn't leak before you get carried away. If it does, simply place a sandwich bag as a liner, it works great!

Workshop and Holiday Design

I love this time of year. With the crispness in the air, new creative designs are being stirred up. Mark in your calendars a Holiday workshop at Smiley Library this Wednesday, November 9th @7pm. I will teach you how to design a unique holiday centerpiece for Thanksgiving and tips with fresh ideas for December decor. You will get to design yourself and take home what you've created at no cost to you.

Around this time, I find myself more and more thankful each year. With new ways I can display my work and use my creative juices, all the fun ideas come out! Special thanks to all my friends, family and cliental that make this life happen!

There will be a trunk show I've been asked to participate in on December 8th, where ornaments, arrangements and fun gifts will be displayed by Ladybird. (details to be confirmed soon)

I've also been asked to design for a launch party of The Hipster on November 9th - an online clothing magazine, where you can shop and find excellent apparel. A handful of guests can accompany me. Please contact me if you'd like to. 5pm @15th and Wazee.

When there's a weekend available, why not travel to see loved ones get hitched? It was an incredible ceremony, held at St. John's Cathedral Park, the sun was shining! I had the opportunity to design for John and Melissa. They ordered flowers from a local grower, whom they stumbled across at a farmer's market. I was amazed at the beauty of the flowers. It's times like this that I wish rain was more prominent in Denver, the access to gorgeous and huge flowers are unlimited! Walking down the street, its incredible to see huge plants, growing naturally full of life and beauty.

Hello lovely followers! I have posted the dates for my design workshops!

Each class is $50. (don't fret, it's well worth the cost), it offers space for you to listen and observe how to design. I will give you pointers on easy ways to assemble, design, create so you can go home and practice for yourself! Flowers will be available for you to design with, for the 'hands on portion' of the class. If you are up for it, I will critique and give helpful hints to keeping that bouquet fresh and beautiful with space for Q&As!

Oh, and did I mention you also will have the goodness of hor'dourves and drinks at your fingertips! Please spread the word. Space is limited to 10 per class. So please respond to Ladybirdpoppy@gmail.com to reserve a space. I will also need to collect a non- refundable deposit of $30 to hold your spot.

All classes will be held at 520 Emerson Street, Denver 80218.

DIY Garden Box

I ignored the weather report today and decided to bust out my tools, dirt, compost and 2x4's. It was a little chilly, but with the help of my lovely roommate, we crafted a homemade raised garden bed. I highly suggest this if you have a free afternoon! If you're a renter, don't fret, this is something that can be easily disassembled and removed upon departure. Tell your landlord not to worry. After all was said and done, I was surprised how quickly it all came together. Now I can't wait to get my hands in the soil once my little seedling pop up. (Just be sure to be patient and wait until Mother's day, or they'll get frosty!) My neighbors will be ooo'n and awe'n in no time! Hello fancy floral folk! This is an exciting week for Ladybird Poppy for many reasons. First, a large THANK YOU is in order for all of you supportive gentlemen who filled the air with love last week. It was a huge joy to design and deliver bouquets to your ladies, curing their Monday blues.

On top of that, it's now seedling time as I collect my favorite veggies & herbs to plant in cute containers. It's easy, all you need is some fresh soil, packets of the little joys you want to find in your salad this summer, water, sunshine, a seedling crate and voila--you have yourself a mini garden. You won't believe the life it gives you to see those green sprouts peeking through the soil. Go on, give it a whirl and grab a friend to help divide the cost. Get planting, you won't regret it!

One last tidbit, I will be at CRAVE Denver this Thursday to celebrate a book launch party that features Ladybird Poppy. This event is geared toward all you fancy female entrepreneurs. Updates to follow...

Hello lovely people! I have an exciting announcement: Ladybird Poppy is now partnering with Peekay Soirees - an events design and wedding planning pair. Krista and Paige, the heart of Peekay, are two lovely ladies who discovered me and decided that amazing events and flowers go hand-in-hand. I'll still be designing independently, but wherever there's a Peekay party, Ladybird Poppy will be in attendance! It's a privilege to work alongside these brilliant, visionary women. You can't go wrong with Peekay.

I also want to send a sincere thanks to all of you who have been involved with Ladybird Poppy this past summer. It has been delightful designing for so many amazing brides and working with friends. Cornflower, eggplant and green accents brought a beautiful Boulder wedding to life. This unique wedding at the Red Lion was coupled with gorgeous mountain weather. Katy and Kyle were generous in allowing my creativity to flow, and the floral hair clips Katy chose instead of bridesmaids bouquets added a wonderful twist to the ceremony. Since I had two assistants helping me and we were able to work and play. We stopped for a drink at the Boulder Teahouse, then headed to watch a friend perform a flamenco dance. It was stunning. Just beautiful. I love having the freedom to design and hang with loved ones, all while contributing to a couple's intimate day of marriage.

Mustard and Eggplant

I love it when brides are adventurous enough to give me creative wiggle room. Such was the case with Sarah Gueirre and her wedding at First Baptist Church of Denver with a reception at the Tivoli. She was absolutely incredible to work with and picked two stunning colors: mustard and eggplant. I took this in a fun direction, adding vegetables such as purple artichokes that really made the bouquets pop. With a mixture of textures the end result was organic yet sophisticated. The icing on this day was how helpful and encouraging the entire family was--filling the event with love, as it is meant to be. A special thanks as well to my friend Daylene Wilson who is branching out with fantastic, creative photography that captured the detail and life of the wedding. Check her out at daylenewilson.com. Buttons and Flowers

Bohemian is back! This weekend I had the pleasure of designing for Shaina and Matt's unique backyard wedding in Fountain, CO. It was great. Bales of hay served as seats while mason jars decorated with buttons and ribbons lined the aisle. Bright orange, red, green and yellow flowers accented the event, while buttons tied it all together with a truly vintage aesthetic. Check out Ladybird Poppy Facebook for pictures!

Gorgeous Wedding!

I'm a lucky lady considering I got to spend an amazing day in the foothills at a gorgeous wedding! The Rockland Community Church in Golden hosted the ceremony and a wonderful reception followed at the Mount Vernon Country Club. One element that enhanced these beautiful locations were the colors involved in the wedding. The bouquets looked stunning in bold red against a backdrop of ivory and black dresses. Sprouting up

Spring Forward

Hello All! I don't know about you, but this 60-degree weather has got me squirming! I LOVE springtime, especially since I planted vegetable and herb seedlings last week and can't wait to see what happens. Also, the wholesalers, where I find my favorite flowers, start bringing in more and more life. This allows my design to become brighter and even more enjoyable as the months go on. It gets me excited for the fabulous weddings to come!

Valentine weekend was a win, win experience. While donating designs for a school fundraiser at Hope Academy, I got to meet some amazing kids and also left the event with 47 Valentine's Day orders. That's double the amount of bouquet orders I had last year for Valentine's Day, not to mention the additional orders from friends. What's even better is that creating bouquets is one of my favorite things to do. I get to bring a fresh scent to these homes and make a specific design for each lucky lady that incorporates her personality and style. Unique, inspiring and fun!

Everyone wants to be original, and on December 30th I had the privilege to design for an inspiring couple whose wedding was completely fresh! Robin and Willie are young, creative and energetic and wanted their big day to be bold and bright. Since Robin loves roses and orchids, we utilized these flowers, but with a twist. They were transformed in a process that begins when the flowers are cut. The growers inject dye into the stems of white flowers, then, when the flowers absorb water and hydrate, the dye slowly changes their petals into different colors. Mile High Station hosted this incredible wedding - a perfect venue to enhance the couple's unique personalities. I had a ball designing for them, and was fortunate to partner with the talented photographers, Sarah and Josh of Photo De Novo who gave me a shout-out at www.photodenovo.com.

A Black and White Wedding!

A couple weekends ago, I was able to design for an all white and black wedding. Since there are no actual black flowers, it was fun to come up with accessories to decorate the bouquet with. Pearls, curly willow, feather, rhinestones and ribbon added the perfect touch. The bride loved it and was wonderful to design for! Even when you need flowers that aren't available in that specific color....I love coming up with alternatives to accent your day!

The joy of a brother married!

This past weekend was amazing! My younger brother Ryan married beautiful Trixie last Saturday the 18th. I had the privilege to design flowers for their wedding and work with an amazing photographer, Sarah Neubert with Photo De Novo. She has incredible talent capturing the details in all her pictures. Sarah and I have dreamed of working together, what a better way than to start off with my brother's wedding? This wedding was so adorable, being on a farm, mason jars, handmade Indonesian table cloths, beautiful desserts made by guest at the wedding, dancing, laughing, tacos, smores, and mason jarred candlelight. Ryan and Trixie's wedding was a delight to be apart of. Trixie is wonderful and amazing to work with, stating that she just wanted it to be a country, colorful wedding...she allowed me to take it from there!

A refreshing group of colors for a beautiful day! This wedding, I designed for Heather for her outdoor wedding in Boulder at Red Lion Restaurant. The colors were so vibrant and fun to work with! Green hydrangea, orange gerbera daisy, fresh lavendar, purple stock, iris, curly willow and limes!

Fun, gorgeous, unique and inspiring, all of my wedding flowers looked like a piece of art, just beautiful! They were the perfect balance of interesting textures, colors and movement. They added so much life to my special day, and are a joy to relive in the photos. Not to mention the numerous compliments I received that day, for which I couldn't take any of the glory! Everyone loved them and especially the bridesmaids loved carrying their bouquets.

You completely understood the look and feeling I was going for, with little direction from me. I was hesitant about the my color scheme being difficult to work with, but you found beautiful flowers I had never seen before.

Mason Jars and colorful colors!

Here is some fun that I get to design for in July for my future sister-in-law's wedding! Colors from Indonesia and mason jars, filled with bright wildflowers. Talking with Trixie and Ryan yesterday, this wedding is going to be so much fun to design for!! Here is a sneak peak!

I was able to design for Megan and Tony for their special day. The colors they chose were amazing. I had the freedom to design what I wanted, she just gave me the colors and said she trusts me from there!!

What a wonderful way to start off the wedding season and an amazing family to design floral bouquets for!

Not to mention, the victorian house that I got to stay at and design for, couldn't have been more perfect to design in. With the cool temperature, the flowers stayed prime and beautiful.

I got to catch up and spend time with dear friends in Fort Collins, eat yummy meals, overlook a beautiful garden while designing, laughs, good sleep and icecream!

The weather is so wonderful outside, going on walks is amazing! I love seeing all the new flowers blooming throughout the city. It's gives me new inspriation and joy to keep on designing.

Mother's Gift

This past weekend, I was able to design for Mother's day. With it being my 2nd major holiday in the floral industry, I'm thankful for all of you who help make this happen! I had alot of orders to fill, but love to create bouquets for those I know and care for! :) It's getting a bit tight in my apartment for this...with the wedding season approaching and 18 booked! I am currently looking for a studio to work out of. So, spread the work if you know of a place that would be ideal for flowers (a cool space, temperature wise)

As far as designing went this weekend, I don't feel like I had as many unique flowers to work with as I'd like this time round, but hopefully it brightened a Mother's day!

Pirate Art Gallery

This past weekend, I was pleased to design for Skyler McGee for her art opening at Pirate Gallery on Navajo and 33rd. The day of was not the most pleasant day, but I do have to say that using bright orange French Tulips and ranunculus, these arrangements were a bit therapeutic to design. I had a moment of recognizing, that I truly enjoy floral designing, because once I was finished with the arrangements...my emotions seemed much lighter.

So, this past Sunday, I was able to go to a free wedding floral design show at a local wholesaler. Three different designers came in and taught fun, affordable and unique arrangements for your everyday wedding! About 100 people came from florists all over the state.

It was entertaining to watch them design so quickly and have beautiful arrangments to show.

Needless to say, I'm inspired with new ideas for weddings and centerpieces, at affordable costs and amazing colors!!

Easter was fun and and a little different this year! I was house sitting for my sister that week, watching the lil animals. It was hilarious to design over there and see how curious the kitties were, they kept batting around each scrap I'd drop on the floor. Josh, the dog just kept wagging his tail in hopes to chew on a stick. I wouldn't let him touch it until I started to design...tossed him the bottom end of the curly willow. He was so excited, holding in his mouth, prancing and throwing it all over! It added to the joy of designing, to have unique, fluffy and cute company around, curious and wanting to just have fun. Josh was tuckered out by the end of the day! :)

Floral Association of the Rockies Designer Competition! March 2009

I was awarded 2nd place in the People's Choice Award from competing in The Floral Association of the Rockies Designer of the Year Competition. This is the first major competition I have participated in throughout my career. It was a wonderful opportunity to create designs right along side well known designers that have been in the industry for years. This was a wonderful learning experience, challenging, heart racing, but very rewarding. The award I received was placed based on the public votes in Douglas County and the Home and Garden Show, held at the Event Center in Castle Rock, Colorado!

The People's Choice event, held on Sunday as part of the Garden Showcase at the Douglas County Event Center, was very popular this year, Over 1000 votes were cast! The top three - Congratulations! 1st Place - Erica Rasmussen, Bouquets, Denver $100.00 cash prize from the Garden and Outdoor Living Showcase, and a framed certificate. 2nd Place - Sarah Tedford, Ladybird Poppy, Denver 3rd Place - Franklin Mera, Artistic Flowers, Denver

My first holiday was a sucess! Thanks to all who ordered floral arrangements from Ladybird Poppy. I was honored to have Sarah Boyd Nuebert with http://www.photodenovo.com/ come and spend the day with me, capturing a day on the job.
